We love getting the opportunity to help out with programmes at their concept stages. We have successfully helped televison producers to sell-in their programme concepts by crafting affordable test pieces. These can be as simple as sourcing social media clips that lend themselves to the concept, then editing them together to align to the concept and adding some simple post production, graphics and voice over.
Where a deeper proof of concept for character development, presenter or location tests are required, Olaus Roe can deliver creative and engaging material all shot and produced to our high standards, yet within the often very small budgets allocated for this type of concept test.
There maybe other ways we can help out with broadcast development shoots, such as creating novel graphics to complement or even explain them. On occasion we have even rescued some tests when characters or scenarios have not played out as expected, either with some creative editing or using our capable visual effects resources.

For this reality television series concept teaser, Olaus Roe supported director John Shackleton on a two day shoot around Cornwall where the plan was to follow the main presenter Alexy, a car hunter for the rich and famous as he tracked down a Mercedes SL for his car collector client, Will.
As with filming any reality show, more often than not the story can change by the moment, as transpired here - the car turned out to be a wreck! Back in our editing suite we had fun piecing together the new story and adding a hint of humour along the way. And with all graphics VO and online completed within a short time frame, our client was able to make key decisions on screen tests of some of the initial characters make and adjustments to the show format before delivering versions for the commissioning editors.

In a cost effective way to visualise a new programme concept, we took our client's brief and sourced content from the internet that when edited together, gave a good approximation of the show's style and pace.
This method avoids the need for shoots at this stage of concept visualisation, however being internet sourced there are naturally different qualities and sizes in the media. Although this can be overlooked for an internal audience such as this (a commissioning editor) we can help marry the content together with colour grading and some extra post work to remove logos etc when required if it becomes a distraction in viewing.
This concept development teaser is part of a test shoot for a reality series following a family-based team of display pilots. It included filming tests for character, location and cast analysis. Onboard aircaft footage was also added.
